Hi there!
Today, I am writing once again about every college student’s favorite topic: dorm living.

I recently wrote about my dorm room revamp that cost right at $50, and you can read that here!
Let’s be real: dorm rooms are not always the most inviting, pretty, or even comfortable.
Nothing made me feel more homesick when I first moved to college than walking into my summertime dorm room that was not cozy or homey at all.
There are a few things that my roommate and I both feel are important to making dorm living feel as cozy as possible. And today, I am sharing those with you!
Pillows and Blankets
The first one is simple. I don’t want to fill my bed with more pillows, throws, and blankets than can fit in our small room, but I do like to have a couple pillows and a coordinating throw to make my bed a more inviting space to jump onto when I walk in the door!
Organization

This may seem like an odd suggestion for making your room feel inviting and homey, but think about it! Walking into a cluttered room often causes me more anxiety than comfort, and I love when I have just cleaned or tidied my room because everything has a place. One visible form of organization that I utilize in my dorm room is a set of drawers. I chose to conceal the contents of the drawers by cutting a piece of scrapbook paper into strips and taping them inside the fronts of the drawers for a cleaner look.
I love having an organized desk space, and this is one of my favorite ways to make my room feel like a cozy escape.
Rugs
This one is a nonnegotiable for me! My roommate got this rug for our room, and we love how inviting it looks (vacuuming it is a whole other story). I love rolling out of bed in the morning onto a cozy rug!

A Little Decor
When I’m home, I love how my mom decorates seasonally. It makes me so happy to see all the cute garlands, pictures, and seasonal items carefully placed throughout the house!
In a dorm room, your interior design capabilities may be a little limited. However, I think a few small pieces can go a long way! I absolutely love fall, but it is not the most sensible to go all-out and decorate my room with pumpkins and cute trinkets. I would have nowhere to store it all throughout the other seasons! Instead, I opt for some small pieces that are not fragile and do not take up much space when stored out of season.
That’s why when I saw these cute fabric pumpkins at Target for only $1, I felt silly not to go for it!

I think they really complete my desk space for this season!
Lamps and Soft Lighting
Finally, the most important part of making your dorm room feel cozy and homey—soft lighting.
For my roommate and me, overhead lighting is an absolute last resort—only to be used in times of extreme desperation. We prefer the soft lighting of lamps over that of our obnoxiously bright overhead fixtures. It makes the room so much more inviting!
That’s all I have for today! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what I like to do to make my dorm room feel cozy and inviting every day!
Let me know what your favorite ways to make your dorm room feel like a home are in the comments, through email, or through Instagram DMs! I wanna know!

Until next time,
