My Travel Bucket List

Happy spring! Well, almost.

As we are near the warmer months, I have started thinking about all the fun that comes with the sweet sunshine of spring and, later on, the heat and magic of summertime.

With these thoughts, I have lately experienced this overwhelming desire to travel—which might just be because I am beyond ready to close the final chapter of my time as a college student and move on to absolutely anything else. However, with the current travel scares, I recognize this might not be the right time to be making travel plans. Until then, I will keep dreaming.

There are three places I have always wanted to travel to, and today, I will tell you the three international destinations and explain makes me want to visit each!

Milan, Italy

Oh, Milan, how beautiful you are! For so long—truly from the time I was about ten or eleven years old—I have wanted to visit Italy in general.

One year at Christmastime, I received a mini Italy calendar from my grandmother after making it known to all of my family how much I wanted to travel there some day. My favorite photo from that calendar was one taken in Milan, and I always remember thinking that I “needed” to visit Milan. The culture of Milan that largely centers around fashion has a big role, I believe, in my desire to travel to Milan specifically.

However, I think that Italy is a beautiful country, and I would be thrilled to visit any part of it.

Santorini, Greece

As someone who has always had a fascination with Greek culture, it would be a dream to visit Greece someday. Between the mythology, literature, and philosophy that have largely influenced western culture, I never tire of learning more about Greece.

While traveling throughout the entire country is the ultimate goal, I especially am drawn to the simplistic beauty of Santorini. The vibrant natural colors of the island in combination with the architectural simplicity and symbolism is breathtaking. Someday, I want to be able to say, “There was this one time in Santorini…”

Singapore

Often when I casually mention that I want to visit Singapore, I am met with, “SiNgApOrE?!” Or some variation of that.

Singapore is an independent city-state located along the southernmost border of Malaysia. It is a very prosperous and technologically-advanced country, and from what I can tell, their architecture and the overall essence of their cities reflects both of these qualities.

Embarrassing but honest confession: I had never thought of visiting Singapore until watching the movie, Crazy Rich Asians, while on a flight from Tokyo to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. I was blown away by the beauty of Singapore in those scenes, which, upon further research, I discovered were mostly filmed in Malaysia. Regardless, I immediately conducted a little research on Singapore, and it quickly made its way onto my list of places to visit in the future.

“Without new experiences, something inside of us sleeps.”

Frank Herbert

Not knowing what the future holds, there is no way to guarantee as of now that I will have the opportunity to visit all three of these destinations or even one. We live on an incredible planet filled with amazing people and culturesc, and I want to attempt to experience as many new places and meet as many new people as possible.
